Trevor Penning is an offensive lineman who played college football at Northern Iowa and was a 2022 first-round pick of the New Orleans Saints. Path to the league

Penning started all 12 games at left tackle in his final Northern Iowa season and was the only offensive lineman named a finalist for the Walter Payton Award, given to the FCS National Offensive Player of the Year. He became the first Northern Iowa player drafted in the first round. The Saints selected him in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Career highlights

Penning spent his first NFL seasons in New Orleans before joining the Chargers, who acquired him to help a struggling offensive line. Los Angeles re-signed him in free agency in March 2026 on a one-year, $4.5 million contract.
