Rams Place Myles Garrett on IR After Knee Surgery; Out at Least Four Games

Garrett played 62 percent of the snaps against San Francisco without recording a tackle and called it the worst version of himself; Sean McVay says the knee wasn't manageable after all and won't put a timeline on his return.

The Los Angeles Rams placed Myles Garrett on injured reserve after knee surgery, coach Sean McVay said Monday, sidelining the reigning Defensive Player of the Year for at least four games: the Giants, Broncos, Eagles and Bills.

What changed after the opener?

Garrett missed most of training camp with knee swelling and played 62 percent of the defensive snaps in the 27-7 loss to San Francisco without a tackle, saying afterward it was "the worst version of myself that I put out there." "We thought Garrett's knee was something Garrett could manage, and that wasn't necessarily the case," McVay said. "The reality is, our job is to put our players and our team in positions to have successful outcomes."

When will he be back?

McVay declined to set a date: "It'd be unfair to him ... to put any sort of timeline on it. We know that he'll be available in four weeks potentially." Linebacker Nate Landman (shoulder and thumb) is expected to play Monday night against the Giants, safety Kam Curl's ankle is described as fine, tight end Davis Allen was cleared after a concussion check, and linebacker Omar Speights is making progress from a hip pointer.
