Brenton Cox Jr. arrived in the NFL as an undrafted free agent after a winding college path from Georgia to Florida, but he has since made himself a productive part of the Packers' edge-rush rotation. An injury cut short his 2025 season just as he was building on a breakout prior year.
Path to the league
A five-star recruit out of Stockbridge, Georgia, Cox originally signed with Georgia before being dismissed from the program and transferring to Florida ahead of the 2019 season. Over two and a half seasons with the Gators he recorded 117 tackles, 32.0 tackles for loss and 14.5 sacks in 33 starts, but he went unselected in the 2023 NFL Draft and signed with Green Bay as an undrafted free agent.
Career highlights
Cox broke out in 2024, finishing with 12 tackles, 4.0 sacks and a forced fumble across seven games on just 160 defensive snaps, ranking fourth on Green Bay's defense in both sacks and quarterback hits despite the limited playing time.
2025 season recap
The Packers placed Cox on injured reserve on September 11, 2025, which limited him to four games on the season. He managed 1.0 sack in that abbreviated action before the injury cut short what had been shaping up as a follow-up breakout year.
