Rodney Thomas II arrived from the Ivy League as a seventh-round afterthought and immediately became a difference-maker for the Indianapolis Colts, picking off four passes as a rookie. After four seasons anchoring Indianapolis' secondary, he signed with the Seahawks in 2026 looking to add a championship-caliber defense to his resume.

Path to the league

Thomas starred at Yale, earning First-Team All-Ivy League honors and a spot on the All-New England Team in 2021 after finishing third in the conference with 11 pass breakups. He helped the Bulldogs to two Ivy League championships before the Indianapolis Colts selected him in the seventh round, 239th overall, in 2022, making him Yale's first NFL draft pick since Foye Oluokun in 2018.

Career highlights

Thomas made an immediate impact as a rookie, intercepting four passes, the most by a Colts rookie since 2004. He started 25 games across his first two seasons and played in every regular-season game for Indianapolis across all four years of his rookie contract, finishing with six interceptions, 102 tackles and 10 passes defensed in 68 games.

2025 season recap

Thomas played all 17 games for the Colts in 2025 but saw his production dip, finishing with 21 tackles and no interceptions or pass breakups after his strong start to his career. He signed a one-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks in March 2026 as a free agent.
