Skylar Thompson has spent his career as a reliable depth quarterback, a role that took him from Miami to Pittsburgh and now to Baltimore. The former Kansas State record-setter has made his mark in spot duty, most memorably in a gutsy playoff start against the Bills that nearly pulled off a shocking upset.

Path to the league

Thompson starred at Kansas State from 2016 to 2021, leaving as the school's career leader in several passing categories and ranking second in program history in both passing touchdowns and passing yards. The Miami Dolphins selected him in the seventh round, 247th overall, of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Career highlights

Thompson started three games as a rookie in 2022 after injuries sidelined Tua Tagovailoa and Teddy Bridgewater, and he made his biggest mark in the postseason, throwing for 220 yards and a touchdown in a 34-31 Wild Card loss at Buffalo despite Miami entering as 14-point underdogs. He spent three seasons in Miami before signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2025.

2025 season recap

Thompson spent the 2025 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers on a reserve/future-turned-active deal but did not appear in a regular-season game, spending time on injured reserve. He signed with the Baltimore Ravens in May 2026, where he will compete for the third-string quarterback job behind Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley.
