Packers Lose Javon Hargrave for the Season to a Torn Achilles, a Week After Edgerrin Cooper
The 33-year-old defensive tackle, signed for two years and $23 million in March, was carted off in the fourth quarter of the win over Chicago. Green Bay is down to four healthy defensive tackles.
Green Bay Packers defensive tackle Javon Hargrave tore his Achilles in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 31-7 win over Chicago and will miss the rest of the season, a source told ESPN after tests Monday. It is the second straight week a Packers defender has suffered the injury, following linebacker Edgerrin Cooper.
How did it happen?
Hargrave came up hopping at the end of a pass-rush move, could not put weight on his right leg and was carted off. "I just saw Hargrave and it doesn't look good," Matt LaFleur said afterward. Hargrave, 33, signed a two-year, $23 million deal with a $10.5 million signing bonus in free agency, missed Week 2 with a knee injury and a concussion, and had four tackles on 123 snaps as a rotational player.
Who is left inside?
Four healthy defensive tackles on the active roster. Warren Brinson is on injured reserve with calf and groin injuries and Jordon Riley is on the physically unable to perform list after his own Achilles tear last season; either or both could return later this year. Green Bay is 3-2 and hosts Dallas on Sunday night.
