J.T. Gray is a safety and standout special teams player who signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in March 2026 after seven seasons in New Orleans.

J.T. Gray went undrafted out of Mississippi State and turned himself into one of the NFL's premier special teams players. He spent the first seven seasons of his career with the New Orleans Saints, earning All-Pro recognition for his coverage work. He joined the Philadelphia Eagles in 2026.

Path to the league

Gray played at Mississippi State, where he appeared in 45 games with 17 starts as a versatile defensive back and linebacker, collecting 210 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, eight pass breakups, and one interception. He went undrafted in 2018 and signed with the Saints.

Career highlights

Gray became one of the league's best special teams players in New Orleans. From 2019 through 2024 his 93 special teams tackles led the NFL, and he posted double-digit special teams tackles five times. He set a career high with an NFL-best 26 special teams tackles in 2024 and earned three All-Pro honors, including a first-team nod in 2021.

2025 season

Gray's resume as a coverage ace carried into the offseason, and on March 21, 2026, he signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles after his long run with the Saints.
